We had a nice, slow morning around the house today. We got to wake up slow, without alarms, eat a relaxed breakfast, and watch a little bit of tv. Jeff went to help load up his parents’ old dining room table, and deliver it to some friends of ours from church who needed one. The girls and I stayed home and did some cleaning in the living room, and a couple loads of laundry. They also put on “fancy” dresses and played together for a while, and then we sat down for a few minutes for them to color.
I also took some time to flip through this cookbook I had checked out from the library. Meredith was a private chef in New York City and the Hamptons, and is very popular on TikTok. I’ve followed her for years, and loved seeing her beautiful cookbook come to life. Some of these look super delicious, and totally doable as well, so I can’t wait to try some out sometime soon hopefully.
I took a shower after our chores, and then Jeff brought home Chick-fil-A for lunch when he was done. Then we left him at home folding a couple of loads of clean laundry, while the girls and I ran out. We stopped at 7Brew first, where I got an iced pumpkin chai with caramel drizzle, and it was super sweet but verrryyy good.
And then of course we had to take our weekly Saturday trip to the library. I returned some books, and picked up just one book I had on hold, and the girls played for a little while.
We ran back home to pick up Jeff after our library trip, and made the little drive out to Nana & PopPop’s new house in Havana. They still haven’t officially moved it, but they’ve been doing work every day to move what they can on their own. Addie and I both nodded off in the car on the way there too, had ourselves a little car cat nap.
But Emerson just read her little book the whole drive up there, like the mini bookworm that she is.
Jeff helped PopPop with some projects around the house, like moving the fridge from the kitchen to the garage, because they’re bringing a nicer one with them. Nana and I worked in the kitchen putting away all the food she brought over, and organizing a lot of other kitchen things like spices, Tupperware, and Ziplock baggies. Oh and we put together a new little end table for the living room. And we all made a lot of progress!
Afterwards, we went to one of the three options in downtown Havana open for dinner, Gocki’s. It’s just a small quaint little place, but the food was really good! My chicken pita was really good, and Nana said her meatball sub was one of the best she ever had!
We started our meal inside, but it was freezing in there, and once the sun went down behind the buildings, it was perfect out on their front patio. We ended up just sitting and hanging out for another 15-20 minutes even after we finished eating, because it was so nice and peaceful and the weather felt so great.
We had brought everything we needed to give the girls a bath at Nana’s new house, so we did that and then headed home shortly after. And of course both girls fell asleep in the car just a few minutes after we got on the road. And luckily, we were able to transfer them straight to their beds when we got home. Well, Jeff carried Addie and she stayed asleep the whole time, but Emmie woke up and walked herself to bed, and then fell back asleep very quick and easy.
OK now I need to go force myself to wash some dishes, since I never got to that chore today, and then I’ll sit down later to read or watch tv or something…
