Today’s breakfast was Cinnamon Toast Crunch at the coffee table, while watching “Baby John” YouTube videos.
Which was followed not too long afterwards by a mid-morning lollipop snack, and the “Born in China” animal movie on Disney+, coloring on last night’s empty pizza box, and then playing with lots of toys.
That animal movie was super cool, and highlighted four or five different animals in China, and was really interesting for kids & adults. She climbed up here on her own, lined up all these blocks and shapes in a long, lazy “S” curve, then proclaimed, “That looks so cute.”
She repeated yesterday’s PB&J, with the other half of the bag of Cheeto’s that she didn’t finish yesterday, and still didn’t actually finish today either.
And she was super sweet and cuddly at nap time. This was during nap time prayers…
As soon as she woke up, we packed her a bag, and set off to send her to her Grandparents! I met Grammy & Grandmommie in the Newk’s parking lot, and she went back to their house for swimming time with the grandparents, plus Aunt Meggie, Uncle Bo & the babies. (She had lots of stuff she just insisted on bringing with her, so she ended up with two bags.)
So last weekend, Emerson saw the triplets getting their teeth brushed with electric toothbrushes, and really needed one too. So Grammy got her one too, and she was so excited about it, she brushed her teeth twice just at Grammy’s house today!
Jeff and I skipped out on the fun afternoon of swimming, so that we could get some more work done on the whole kitchen cabinet situation. So, we got everything prepped and ready, and then got the first coat of primer on the upper cabinet doors.
Sadly though, as the primer started drying, it was turning nasty yellow and looked very stained and gross. We’re not really sure what’s causing this and why it’s happening, but it’s super frustrating. We thought it happened on the trim last week, because it hadn’t been sanded at all, but these doors were sanded and wiped the same way the lower doors were last weekend, and the lower doors didn’t yellow this way. So we put a temporary halt on the second coat, and decided to yet again go buy a small quart of the oil-based stuff. Then we’ll do the second coat with that, hoping it will zap out all the yellow-ness, so that the final white coat will actually be white, without the gross yellow stuff showing through.
We did put the new handles on the drawers, and I love them! it’s hard to get a good photo of them, because they’re a little more yellow-y gold in this photo than in real life, but I really like them!
While we were at Home Depot getting the new primer, we also picked out a spray paint to test out for the hinges on the lower cabinets. (If you missed that story, it’s a long one, but basically our old cabinets can only use one kind of hinge, and it doesn’t come in the same color as the handles we already bought. So we’re hoping we can spray paint the hinges to match the handles.)
After our quick shopping trip, we drove out to my parents’ house to pick up our Tater Tot. She had a lot of fun with the family this afternoon, swimming and eating grilled cheese for dinner, but she still happily got in the car with Mommy & Daddy to head on home.
When we got home, she wanted to go check out the freshly mowed grass from last night, and it was so nice and short and fresh. As we opened the back sliding door, she took a big sniff and said, “It smells good out here.” I said, “Oh really? What does it smell like?” And she said, “Frogs.” So I said, “Oh yeah? What do frogs smell like?” And she said, “Outside.” And so I guess she’s right about that!
She was super tired, and bedtime was super easy. We read two small books, while she finished up her squeeze-y applesauce pouch from Grammy’s house (and she told me the proper way to squeeze it up like Papa does), and then we did loves and kisses and lullabies. She said something about me going to sleep, and I told her I wasn’t going to bed just yet because I had some chores and work to do, so she said, “You can do ONE more door work and that’s it and then bedtime.”
Unfortunately, we have way more than just one cabinet door to do, but we’re hoping this second coat using the oil-based primer goes quickly, and then we can call it a night. This project is slow and a lot of hard work, but I’m praying the pay-off will be enormous!
