It was a good week, but we were still happy it was finally Friday! Jeff took both of these little cuties to school today.
And I was especially glad it was Friday, since I had the day off work! The State gives us a “personal holiday” to use for whatever, and a lot of people use it during their vacation or whatever, but I wanted to use mine as an actual personal holiday just for me! So I stayed home and made myself exactly what only I would want for breakfast & lunch, and watched tv and started a new puzzle, and it was so lazy and so nice! I thrive on alone time, and I was overdue for some for myself.
Avocado toast with honey & feta for breakfast, while finishing up last night’s episode of Survivor.
Then I broke out my new little Terra Cotta garlic roaster I got from my in-laws’ church yard sale a couple of weeks ago, and roasted up a few heads of garlic. I ended up doing it in two rounds, because the dome lid wouldn’t fit with more than two bulbs.
Look how cute the tiny garlic is on top of the lid, too!
My Mama gave me this adorable puzzle for Christmas this past year, and I started on it today while the garlic was roasting. I was really loving it, and really made good progress on it. My fingertips were/are actually sore just from puzzling so much!
After a couple hours puzzling, I made some roasted garlic mayo and had that on my tomato toast for lunch. Very yummy. I haven’t made this in a long while, but between the sea side theme of the puzzle, and the tomato sandwich, I’m getting ready for summer!
And then I decided to take on another little kitchen project, by making blueberry syrup, to try in my coffee, after seeing it on TikTok. It’s just one cup of blueberries, one cup of water, and one cup of water on the stove until it boils and mixes. That’s the easy part. But then mashing, straining & separating the pulp from the syrup is a very messy procedure, and I made a huge mess on the countertop (you can see the purple stains in the pic, which I later bleached off), and dirtied up like four more dishes. There’s gotta be a better way, so I’ll have to figure that out if I wanna try this again.
Only creamer I had was coconut though, but I figured fruit & coconut go well together, so I gave it a try, and it was pretty good! I’d like to try the blueberry syrup with just some plain creamer to get a true taste of that next time though.
I picked up Emerson in the car ride line after school today, and we took a quick trip to the thrift store, where she lucked out with two more chapter books, and a loaf of Publix bread 🤣 (They will have day-old or almost-day-old bread out of a table for free a lot of times, and we lucked out with this loaf today, that was still super fresh and soft, with a few days left until it’s “best by” date.)
Then I got lots of reading time in during gymnastics – read about 30 pages in between watching the coaches do the skills testing with the girls, since it’s almost the end of the current spring session.
We picked up Addie from school after gym, and had a quick visit to the Lake Jackson library. I had two books on hold to pick up, and Emerson had literally 11 books to pick up. She’s working her way through the Disney fairy book series, so we had all of them transferred to this library branch for pick-up for her. We were only there for the last 30 minutes before they closed at 6pm, but it was so calm and quiet and the girls were so perfectly well-behaved. It was lovely!
Then of course we had our typical pizza Friday night at home, with a couple of Digiorno pizzas to all share. And Jeff wanted to introduce the girls to “A Goofy Movie” tonight! It’s actually not one that I grew up watching, but he loved it as a child, and the girls ended up really loving it too. Since we got home early, and the movie was so short (only 1hr 15mins), they actually finished the whole thing. (I was actually reading during the second half after I ate.)
Addie picked out the book she wanted us to read tonight, and then Emmie covered her up in a giant pile of stuffies to “hide” from Daddy before he came back there.
Emerson was so sleepy she fell asleep during her lullaby, and Addison fell asleep snuggling Daddy. And Jeff already went to bed early tonight too, so now I have a night to myself to cap off my personal holiday 🙂
