We did great getting up and ready and out of the house, on our first morning of the week without Daddy. We had all the stuff we needed, and were only a few minutes later leaving than planned… I just forgot my coffee on the kitchen counter! So I made an emergency stop at Dunkin after dropping off the girls 😉
There are special dress-up days at daycare this week for Addie, and today was silly sock day (or so I thought). So I picked out two mis-matched Trolls socks for her, and she chose to wear her new jellies with the socks. Turns out, today was supposed to be wacky tacky day and tomorrow is silly sock day, so we had that a bit mixed up. Oh well!
For dinner tonight, I tried out a recipe I’ve been wanting to try for a while now, but knew it was more of a “girl dinner” kind of meal, so I was waiting for a night with just us girls. It’s called “pastina,” which is kinda just glorified butter noodles, with fresh parm cheese, garlic, lemon, butter, and S&P. Super simple ingredients, very simple to make. Addison barely tried one bite before deciding she didn’t like it. But Emerson cleaned her bowl and loved it, and said I should definitely make it again. I have a few simple modifications I’d make next time, just to make it more to my own tastes, but it was so good and comforting!
We ate dinner in the living room again tonight, and finished up watching High School Musical 2. During the last song and dance, the girls just had to get up and dance around themselves! We also had a video call with Daddy for a while after dinner & dancing.
Then since Addie didn’t eat her pastina, I made her a round peanut butter sandwich, which she ate all of. The girls also made some “thank you” cards and drew some pictures in them, to go with some end-of-the-year presents we grabbed for their teachers from TJ Maxx after work today.
After finishing the cards, Emerson found gift bags (from my collection of pre-used/recycled bags) and tissue paper, and packed up both gifts from both girls for their teachers. She is such a good helper! She always is, but she especially is on these nights without Daddy home to help us.
We watched a little bit of Bluey, and then read some books and sang some lullabies, and the girls finally settled down and fell asleep in Mommy’s bed again.
Last night, I moved them both to their own beds when it was my time to go to bed. And they both stayed in their own beds the whole rest of the night, which is basically a miracle these days! So I’ll attempt that again tonight too, and we’ll see how it goes. First though, I’m going to re-do my fingernails while I watch a Netflix true-crime documentary.
