Our Family is So Weird

Today for breakfast, we had very buttery grits, plus cheese of course, and little maple sausage links. My tiny girl wanted to help out, so she was in charge of the sausage.

After breakfast, we worked on more chores around the house. I was working on our giant pile of dishes (including all the Tupperware we emptied of un-eaten leftovers for trash day this morning), and Jeff was working on laundry. Oh and he went out to get a haircut this morning too. When I wanted to sit down and take a little break, I put away my completed puzzle, and decided to start up on a new one. This one isn’t super Christmassy, but still very wintery, so I decide to squeeze in one more “holiday” puzzle while it’s still winter.

We had lunch at home, worked on a few more things, and then got dressed and packed up to go to Grammy’s house. The girls played in the backyard for a long time, while Jeff and Papa worked on building a shelf for the garage, and also checking something on Papa’s car… I was able to just hang out inside chatting with Mama and Grandmommie during all of that. The girls eventually got Papa to play with them and push them on the swing, once he was done working.

Mama and I ran out to pick up some Chinese food for dinner, and we made our own little mini-buffet, with about four different entree options, two kinds of rice, and plenty of egg rolls.

Addie was drumming with her chopsticks on these little boxes, as I was feeding her since she wouldn’t eat on her own.

Then we played a game my parents got me for Christmas, called “Our Family is So Weird.” You take turns reading off cards that say things like, “Most like to have a mental breakdown when Netflix doesn’t work,” and then everyone picks a family member and writes in on these mini whiteboards. The person with the most votes “wins” the card, and the first person to win seven cards wins the game. We quickly realized that meant that the “winner” was also the “weirdest,” and would you ever guess that I was the first to win seven cards?! How rude… But it was truly so much fun!

Addie was just all cuddled up and munching on a tiny apple while we watched a little bit of tv, and Emmie was snuggling with Grandmommie.

When it was time to go home, Emerson was like, “I don’t wanna go, I wanna stay.” So Grammy and I had a conversation of about three words and two looks, and after some whispers to Emmie, she ended up staying there for an impromptu sleepover. Addie realized Emmie wasn’t with us as we were getting buckled up in the car. She sounded totally affronted, but when we explained, she was actually OK with it, and fell asleep before the first Jo Bros song even ended 🤣

So then bedtime was quick and easy, since we only had one girl, who was already mostly asleep anyways. She did wake up barely when we got home, but Jeff took her back to Emmie’s room, and she’s currently sound asleep in there. It’ll be her first time attempting to sleep in there without Emmie, so we’ll just wait and see how she does…

And here’s my December reading wrap-up. All-in-all, I read 105 books, of my goal of 100! Another great year of reading!
