OCC in October

This morning, Grammy invited us all over to her house to help pack 100 Operation Christmas Child boxes! She’s been collecting, buying and receiving donations of things to fill the boxes for basically the whole past year. Her goal this year was to fill 100 boxes, and we helped her pack them all this morning!

She had all of her supplies organized perfectly on tables and in baskets grouped by age and gender. So we gave the girls lots of instructions and directions (and assisted a lot), and we very easily and in less than one hour, packed 50 girl boxes, and 50 boy boxes, and still had lots of supplies left over! (Mom is actually going to get 50 more boxes to pack, since she still had so much more stuff.)

This was actually only the boy stuff in the dining room, and the girl stuff was out in the living room. But I didn’t get too many photos of the actual packing, because Papa and I were on labeling, marking & stacking duty, and that was a big job, trying to keep up with all the boxes as the girls brought them to us. But we had a great system, and the girls did a great job.

And Grammy gave all of the girls little prizes as their “thank-you” gift for helping, so we made them all sit down with eyes closed and hands out, waiting on their little gifts.

And check out this gigantic OCC blow-up that my mom has in her front yard – so awesome!

After we finished everything, Grammy gathered them all up to remind them what and who we were packing these boxes for, and reminding them we should pray for the kids that would the boxes, and Riley very sweetly interrupted saying, “Grammy, can I pway for the kids wight now?” And then she did say the sweetest little prayer.

We all went out to lunch at Chick-fil-A after, and the girls got some wiggles out playing in the little play-place.

Of course we had library holds to pick up today, and other books to return, so we did a quick 5 minutes in the kids section. Then we thought we were done and leaving, but we stumbled upon “Lego club” in one of the side rooms, so we popped in there for about 15 minutes and had lots of fun in there.

Jeff was actually helping some church friends move this morning, and then he picked up our Walmart grocery order for us. Once Emmie and I came home, I actually laid down with Addie to nap with her, and Jeff took Emmie to Urban Air for a birthday party for a school friend. It was actually Harry Potter themed, so Emmie loved that.

I had woken up first thing this morning with a headache, and it hadn’t gone away, and Addison was just grumpy, so that’s why we both needed a nap. We both slept for about two hours, and both woke up feeling much better. We got started on a little Encanto puzzle, and we watched Encanto on the tv, with Pennie sitting right there with us, ears perked and protecting the backyard. And then Daddy and Emmie made it back home shortly after we had woken up.

We just had a lazy dinner starring the honey bbq boneless chicken from the TGI Fridays frozen foods, which were actually really good. We finished watching “Because of Winn Dixie,” which we’ve been slowly working on for the past week or so, and then the girls had a bath and played together for a while. Then the girls had a bath, and Emerson wanted to try a middle part in her hair, but you can see her hair desperately wants to go back to her normal side part. And who even knows what it’ll look like when she wakes up in the morning!

I need to go remove this old nail polish off my fingernails, but since it’s kinda late, I probably won’t actually paint them tonight, but just save that for another day. Instead, I’ll read a little bit, and then head to bed soon after that.
