Mini Missions Project

After a nice long Thanksgiving break, with three of the four of us sick and out of work/school for over a week, you can imagine this cold Monday morning was difficult. But I still had two smiley girls before we headed out the door, so it wasn’t all bad!

Tonight after work, Emmie and I participated in a little mini missions project with some of the other GC Kids families who are in the Christmas choir. Our church has a homeless ministry who do all sorts of things, and once a month they provide a hot meal. So tonight, we partnered up with them to serve a hot spaghetti plate, along with a table of blankets & some other warm-clothing items, plus the little Christmas goodie/snack bags the kids made yesterday afternoon.

It was chilly, but the kids were all SO excited to serve and help and pass out all the items. (There were literal tears from at least two tiny girls {mine was obviously one of them; my sweet sensitive girl} because everyone wanted a million turns, and could just never help enough.) There weren’t as many folks around to collect everything as they usually have, since it was so cold and most of the folks the team usually serves were probably at the shelter for the night. So the usual Street Hope ministry team loaded up all the rest of the stuff, and took it to pass out there so that none of it would go to waste. But the kids did good and they got to experience a mini missions project, which was a first for some of them!

Jeff and Addie had to meet up with Nana to get some stuff from her, so they just went over to their house and they ended up staying for dinner while just Emmie and I were serving.

Emmie and I got our own dinner afterwards, and headed on home to get warmed up, and made it home just a few minutes before Jeff and Addie did as well. I washed up some dishes leftover from the weekend, while they watched our nightly Bluey episodes, and then we got started on bedtime.

Emmie and I have slowly started working through reading a few pages of The Boxcar Children every night for our bedtime book. And that’s a strawberry bookmark she made herself 🙂

We were actually able to force Addison to fall asleep at a normal time tonight, right at the same time we got Emmie down. It wasn’t without a fight and plenty of tears, but hey, it was worth it.

Jeff and I are both drinking our hot tea now, and I’m going to re-do my nails, and he’s just watching videos on his phone. Perfectly calm and quiet night now!
