Loose Leaf Groceries

Started out this Saturday with cereal for breakfast at home. We finally finished up the last of our Wicked-theme boxes today, which seemed fitting for this week actually.

Then we hit up an indoor garage sale at a church near us. Emmie picked out a coffee cup with dogs on it for her hot tea.

Princess Elsa was bored inside with Emerson and I digging through everything, so her and Jeff went outside for her to run around, and she was apparently pretty enamored with this statue.

Emerson really racked up on the books today, finding a whole box full of kids books just her size. We found an empty box nearby to stack everything up, as I found books, and a puzzle, and a few clothing items for the girls. She found a handful of Magic Treehouse books, plus Junie B. Jones books, and I was really into this 1946 copy of Robinson Crusoe. When we went up front to pay, they decided to charge us only $10 for the whole box! So we really scored big today for that price.

We needed some caffeine afterwards, and then our weekly trip to the library to drop off books, pick up our holds, and let the girls play for a little bit.

Then we went down to the other end of the shopping center to have an early lunch / brunch at the Country Kitchen. I wasn’t super hungry yet, so I just ordered a tuna sandwich, and it was really good. Basically just the way I make it myself at home.

We picked up our grocery order after brunch, and the crazy people just threw everything loose leaf into the back of my car. On the Walmart app, you can select whether you want your stuff in plastic bags, or whether you’ll bring your own reusable bags, and lately we’ve started providing our own, since we’re not donating plastic bags to daycare anymore. Anyways, they’re supposed to load up the stuff in the bags for you, and even though you can see my bag full of bags right there, the dude just chose not to pack them today, so this is how it looked when I opened the trunk when we got home. I literally laughed out loud, took the photo, and then packed it all up myself.

Emmie and I left Jeff and Addie at home to nap, and her and I met some friends at the ninja course park near our house. We were too busy playing and chatting though to take photos, so I’ll have to remember that next time.

When we got home, her and I worked to tidy up her room a bit, and then worked on her bookshelf. We pulled off books that she’s grown out of, boxed up a stack to use as donations in Little Free Library’s, and stacked up plenty to pass down to little sister. And we got allll of her new acquisitions stacked up and got everything looking so nice!

Jeff and Addison were both still napping after all of that, so Emmie and I had some chill time resting on the couch, watching old school “Freaky Friday,” on Disney+. I might have fallen asleep a little bit during movie rest time, but Emmie finished the whole thing.

I popped up afterwards to get busy on some more chores and stuff, like making an easy, authentic Cuban recipe. Tomorrow continues missions month at church, and the kids are doing a fun little missions parade during the service. Each kid will represent a different country, and we chose Cuba. Some of the parents were asked to make and bring a special dish for the kids to try at the end of the service, so I texted one our Cuban friends for her picadillo recipe to try out for the first time. It kind of starts out like a typical spaghetti sauce, but then you add Spanish olives and raisins!

While I was cooking all of that, I also made a giant pot of rice, since you serve the picadillo over rice. I put all of that into containers to take to church tomorrow, and was also working on dinner. We baked a frozen Detroit-style pizza for Jeff and I, and the girls ate their leftovers from brunch this morning.

The rest of the night was chaotic, so no more photos, but the girls had a bath, I washed dishes, and Jeff worked on laundry. Emerson and I are also having to pack tonight, because her and I are going on a little camping trip with her 3rd-5th grade girls church group for a couple of days. We leave after lunch tomorrow, and will return Tuesday afternoon. I’m honestly a little anxious about it though, just doing something out of my comfort zone with people I’m not super close with, but I’m sure we’ll have a great time. Just say a prayer for all of us while we’re out there! I obviously won’t be blogging while we’re out there, so I’ll be back here to post on Tuesday night!
