Lake Monkey Business

After the kids did their missions market back in November, Emerson and Uncle Bo came up with the idea for her to sell our oranges for missions once they were ready. So She had a little table and her basket set up, and they were all bundled up for a cold morning of selling oranges for missions!

We took 8 dozen oranges, and she sold out, and made $45 for BGMC! (BGMC = Boys and Girls Missions Challenge, and is the missions education program, teaching them to pray, give, and reach the lost.)

I was actually singing on the worship team today, so Jeff was out selling oranges with the girls. And I was glad he got these pictures so I could see them at work!

We went out to lunch at Surchero’s with a big group of our friends. Whenever we do that though, I almost never remember to take pictures, since there’s just so much going on, and we’re all just chatting so much. We had a great time though! Afterwards, we ran into Publix to stock up on some good BOGO deals, like pork loin, sausages, Ranch dressing, apples, and mini muffins for the girls.

We had some quiet afternoon movie rest time when we got home, all cuddled up watching a movie together. The girls finished watching “Cinderella II” (not so great a movie), and Jeff and I both fell asleep in the living room.

We woke up a little before 4pm, we got ourselves all up and ready, grabbed all the things we needed, and then loaded up in the car. As we were getting ready, Addison announced, “I’m going to take a nap in the car on the way to Grammy’s house.” And after about 10 minutes, she really did fall asleep, just as she planned!

We stopped for gas, and she stayed asleep. We made it all the way to Grammy’s, and she was still asleep. So Jeff sat in the car with her a little longer, and Emmie and I went inside to hang out and chat with the family. I texted Jeff to wake her up around 5:15, since it was getting so late.

Then we asked Papa to take us to the cute Little Free  Library out at Lake Monkey Business, in their neighborhood. Technically, anyone can walk to it, but if you live there, you have a key to the locked gate, and you can drive into the little lake area, rather than walking in from the road. We got there just in time for golden hour sunset, and it was beautiful. But holy smokes it was freezing! We dropped off a few books from Papa’s stash to donate, and Emmie and I both found a book to grab for ourselves.

Emerson picked this story that takes place as a “prequel” to the Encanto movie, and I picked a book by Julienne Young, who I’ve read before. What I didn’t realize though, is that this book is number three in a trilogy, so I’ll have to see if I can get lucky and collect the first two. I’ve actually had book #1 on my to-be-read list for years, but just never gotten around to it yet, so I didn’t even know the name of this third book.

We tried to hit up one more LFL at the Bannerman Community Center, and although there were lots of books there, we didn’t see any we needed. The girls were happy though, to get a few minutes to lay on the playground, even though it was absolutely freezing.

Grammy made a giant pot of nice warm chili for dinner, with a pan of cornbread on the side. I tried to resist eating the cornbread, I really did, but it was warm and sweet and buttery, and I caved and had one small piece. (I’d barely had any carbs all day by this point though, so that’s still a win in my book.)

We played our silly little “Our Family Is So Weird” game again, and despite this look of boredom I accidentally captured on my dad’s face, we had a great time and lots of laughs. At one point, Emerson was telling this long story, and in the middle, she stopped all dramatically and was like, “And surely blah blah blah…” And that just cracked up Papa so bad, he couldn’t even handle it. Then we were all dying laughing. It was just the way she said, “And surely,” Like just such a big girl and so dramatic.

We stayed playing way too late since we were just having so much fun, so it was past 9pm by the time we got back home to our house. Both girls fell asleep on the way home of course, so we just went straight to bed and they were easy to get back to sleep. Luckily though, even though it was a late night, we have the day off work and school tomorrow. Maybe we’ll get to sleep in a little bit!?
