Heat Advisory

I was back serving on the worship team again this morning, and Emerson wanted to come early with me. She was very excited to see a baby when we got there (who was also there with his parents on worship team), and she quickly took over “babysitting duties” and played with him for a while. In the car after church, she talked about him for about 10 minutes straight, telling me everything they did together 😉

Jeff brought Addie Pie later when it was time for church to start, and so we took their sister pics at the end of the church today. During the service, I got a phone call & a text message from the National Weather Service, about the extreme heat advisory today from 12-8pm, and man could we feel it… I was only outside for about two minutes, walking from the building to the car, taking their picture, and then buckling Addie into her car seat, and my face was glistening, dripping with sweat. It was 92, but felt like 103, and yeah, I agree it was extreme heat.

For lunch today, we tried out a new spot over on our side of town. I saw them building it just a couple of months ago, and then some of our friends from church (who have high taco standards) tried it out and recommended it to us, so we knew we had to get there soon. I got birria tacos, with a giant side of street corn, and this was some of the best-tasting birria meat I’ve ever tried. The street corn was way too much, and I wish there was a smaller size, but it was also very yummy. All of us tried different things, and everyone liked what we had. Will definitely be back here again!

Then Emerson was dying to have Jeremiah’s Italian Ice, which was right next door, and since the girls both ate a good lunch, we gave in and treated ourselves. And this was so good! It was our first time here too, and it was delicious. We all got different flavor combos, and we all tried everyone else’s, and everything was super good.

We headed home after tacos and ice (wanting to just remain indoors and hide away from the heat advisory the rest of the day), and I got Addie down for a nap. I was falling asleep sitting in her floor waiting for her to fall asleep, so I went to my room to lay down too. I had a quick one-hour nap, and then I woke up to go get myself a very-much-needed, and much-overdue pedicure. I love having a little massage chair and a book and a quick hour to myself.

While I was at the nail salon, Jeff went over to a church friends house to help her out with a tech thing, and Emerson went with him. Addison was still taking her super long nap, but she woke up and just cuddled with Ryan on the couch for about 15 minutes, before Jeff & Emmie got home. And our friend passed down this beautiful little dance costume from Addie’s friend to her, and she was so thrilled about it! Once she put it on tonight, she never took it off again, ate dinner in it and everything. Emmie and I coached in some cute little dancer poses, and she’s just so beautiful!

We had leftover pizza from last night for our dinner tonight, and then spent about 30 minutes cleaning up the kitchen counter and living room and Emmie’s old school backpack. Everything has just been so messy and cluttered this summer, as we’ve been choosing fun adventures over cleaning, and that’s fine, but I just had to have things tidied up some tonight before I went crazy! By the time we finally started on bedtime, the girls were definitely tired, and they fell asleep very quickly and easily. Her and I spent a few minutes discussing name options for her new cow, and we landed on a full name of Cotton Candy Milkshake, with just Milkshake for short.

I diced up another fresh pineapple tonight, because we’re having another beach day tomorrow. Jeff and I both took the day off work, so that we could have a free day to take Ryan (and the girls obviously) to the beach while he’s down here this week. We’re planning to go back to our fave St. George Island State Park, so we’re hoping for a nice day and nice weather!

Jeff and Ryan made a quick run to Walmart to get us a new cooler, since we broke the handle off our old on accident on our last beach trip, and now it’s impossible to drag down to the water. We can keep it for other random things, since it does still work, but we need one that we can drag/roll with a working handle… They’ll be back now any minute, but I’m just gonna read a little bit more while I wait for them to get back home.
