Hairstyles & Homework

I always love when my girls wear matching outfits, but these particular blue rompers are definitely one of my faves on them. Plus, they both had super cute hair again today, each one at their own specific request.

After picking up the girls today, Emerson needed to take a big girl shower all by herself when we got home. She said they had allowed them to play out in the rain when it was just barely sprinkling, but she was all sweaty and soggy and yucky. So I got dinner started, and then I got the shower water going for her, and she took care of everything from there. Once she got out, she came out to play with Addie and Pennie in the tee-pee they have set up in the front door hallway.

Emerson and Addison both gave me thumbs up for their dinners, which was just chicken nuggets, garlic Rice-a-roni and canned corn. (I had planned to make meatball sub sliders, but Walmart didn’t give me the bread, so I just pivoted and made dinner out of stuff I already had on hand.)

After dinner, Jeff and Addie got a load of laundry started, and took out the trash together. Meanwhile, Emerson and I stayed in the dining room working on her first homework assignment of the year. She’s so sweet, but also so smart! I listened to her read aloud, and was impressed as she sounded out how to read words like “confidently” and “confided.” But she’s also such a worried little perfectionist! It was only our first night doing homework this year, and she’s already concerned about getting the reading questions wrong or not doing a math problem right. We tell her all the time it’s okay to make mistakes or get the wrong answer – that’s how you learn!

We all watched a little bit more of “Swiss Family Robinson” (that’s a long movie, and it’s taking us many nights to work our way through it), and then the second half of Emerson’s homework was reading time. She’s supposed to read for 20-30 minutes every night, so we both took our books to her bed, and had silent reading time together before bedtime.

I’m gonna be lazy tonight and not wash all the dishes, but just make sure Addie’s little bento box gets cleaned for her lunch tomorrow, and then sit down to read some more, because I’m really in a reading mood today!
