Well 2020 may not be going the way we all thought it would, but at least it’s still moving right along… Welcome to August!
I made absolutely delicious breakfast sandwiches with scrambled eggs and cheese, grilled on a flat griddle, and man they were sooo good.
We kind of lazed about for an hour or so after breakfast, doing pedicures, just taking it easy and playing a little bit, while also watching a little bit of The Grinch.
Emerson was given a $1 bill for helping Mommy do some chores around the house, so when I took her to Dollar Tree with me to pick up some aluminum pans to deliver food in tonight (Jeff finished working on the cabinet hinges while we were gone), she also got to browse the aisles to pick out one new toy of her own. I also started picking up a few things to make a little post-surgery basket for her, of fun new things to play with while she’s in the hospital.
We ran into Publix for butter and coffee creamer, and ended up finding a few more things we “needed,” since they were BOGO, and a few other things like a small frozen turkey breast I thought might be interesting to make for dinner sometime in the future.
Emmie and I ate last night’s leftover Chinese food for lunch once we got home, while Jeff mowed the yard. (It had been almost three weeks since him & the boys last mowed, and it looked like a meadow out there.)
My girl was sleepy and ready for nap time after lunch, so she was really easy to get laid down for nap time.
I was feeling super tired also (after waking up at like 6am with the Tater Tot), so I laid down and tried to nap myself. I slept kept waking up every 10 minutes, so it wasn’t a great nap, and I finally got up after an hour or so. I did a couple small chores around the house while Jeff was still out working in the yard and Emmie was sleeping, and then wrote the first half of this blog post.
After nap time, we colored, and read a Christmas book, and while Daddy, Emmie & Pretzel cuddled on the couch watching “Ferdinand,” I cooked dinner. I made stuffed peppers, Caesar salad and homemade bread. I doubled everything, making enough for ourselves, and to take dinner to our sweet church pianist whom I love, who is battling cancer right now.
We drove across town to Southwood to do a contact-free drop-off with the food on their doorstep, and left ours warming in the oven at home. It was ready and waiting when we got back, and it was so yummy!
Emmie was very sensitive and whiny tonight, so dinner time was actually little tense and not super fun. We then had our nightly potty showdown, where after a few minutes, Emerson and I were both upset and frustrated and crying (I was a bit stressed). I don’t know what else to do y’all, but something’s gotta give.
She knows exactly what she’s doing, and purposefully waits for a diaper. Even the times we made her sleep in her panties, she just wet her pants and kept sleeping, and didn’t really even care. I feel like she’s just learning to hold it longer and longer, and isn’t scared of consequences, and can’t be bribed with any sort of treats, prizes, snacks, activities, or clothes. Ughh you guyyys… Help!
By the time we made it to her regular bedtime routine, she was as sweet as sugar and giving me all the loves and cuddles, and all went very smoothly.
I washed all the dishes and cleaned my super messy and cluttered kitchen (stuffed peppers aren’t technically difficult, but they do make a big ole mess), and now I’m ready to chill out and wind down before bedtime.
