Today, my first girl turned 8 years old! And Addie wanted us back in front of the new bookshelf for morning sister pics.
Addie very sweetly looked up at her big sister and said, “Happy birthday Emmuh-son.” (Which is how her little voice sounds when she says her name.)
On the way to summer camp, I treated Emerson to a special bacon BOB from Whataburger for her birthday breakfast treat. And of course she loved it and ate the whole thing! She’s always been a breakfast girly.
And before going to school, Addie wanted to change into these new little Nautica sneakers we got on super sale at Shoe Station a couple of weeks back. They look great on her, and makes her look super sporty!
Then for a special birthday lunch, Jeff picked up Chick-fil-A (by Emerson’s choosing, of course), and ate with her at camp. (She found one of the counselor’s sunglasses they left on the table and tried them on for herself.)
And then for one more special birthday meal for my little budding foodie, she wanted her favorite, which is Chinese food, and she specifically requested Chow Time Buffet.
One quick little photo shoot of my new 8-year-old when we got home, to forever remember this precious face, in this sweet phase of life, with braces and freckles. I feel like 8 is such an in between stage, where she’s old enough to have so many of her own ideas and opinions, reading books and creating art, wearing her overalls with one shoulder intentionally un-done, with earrings and a choker necklace. But she’s also still such a little kid who still needs comfort from her mommy, and has a hard time handling her own big emotions. She’s halfway to a driver’s license, and halfway through elementary school. She wants sleepovers and parties with friends, but also nightly snuggles and the same prayers and lullabies we’ve said every night since she was a baby.
She’s growing up, but she’s still my baby. And I’m so thankful I get to be her Mommy!
