Card Sharks

Sweet little Addie Pie was super excited about water day at school today. When she saw the clothes I laid out for her on my bed, she was like, “This babin’ soot is beautiful, Mama! It has strawberries on it!”

Meanwhile, for the first time in forever, I took an unprecedented fourth day in a row of sick leave from work. My poor Emmie-cille woke up at 5pm with terrible stomach pains, and ended up throwing up / dry-heaving about eight times, through 9am. So, I stayed home to take care of her. I called the whole week a wash, and decided I’d finally just make it back to work next week.

She was still really puny through lunch time, but started getting hungry. So I made her a piece of toast, and once we knew she kept that down well, I made her a little bit of rice, and just a couple of chicken nuggets, and she did well with that too. Then by the early afternoon she was completely over the whole debacle, and felt totally fine again, back to normal. I think it must have been a stomach bug or something that worked its way out, and after that she was good to go.

So since she was feeling better, we did a few little things around the house, like potting these cute spider plant “babies” a friend at work gave me from her “mother” plant, before she left for a new job. Next, we made sure to water our tomato plant, and pushed it further into direct sunlight. Then we painted our nails a matching shimmery purple, and she “taught” me a card game she learned at camp. Really, I already knew how to play this game, but she did in fact have to refresh my memory a little bit.

Ryan had gone to hang out with Nana and PopPop for most of the day, but when he got back home, we went to go pick up Addison from school all together. She was so proud of her octopus and finger painting, and made sure to point them out to her big brother.

Ryan wanted to eat Raising Cane’s and Whataburger while he was down here. He got Cane’s for himself for lunch a couple of days ago, so we all went out to Whataburger tonight for his last dinner here with us. And Emmie wanted to play more cards, so I packed a deck in my little tote bag, and we busted out a few rounds while waiting for our meals.

And then since it was early and we had the time, we played a few more rounds again after dinner, before we finally hit the road back home.

Oh this is random, but Emmie found her “writing journal” from this past school year tonight and we flipped through it together. She had lots of cute journal entries, but this one made me literally laugh out loud, “My mom talks to criminals on her computer!” I was like, “Girl, that’s not at all what I do!!” And she said, “Well, you read their letters and have to answer them back so it’s kinda like talking to them.” And she’s right, I do have to respond to their formal grievances they submit to Central Office, but that’s such a small part of my job, and also just such a funny way for her to have written about it. But I do love that she drew an FDC logo.

Ok so back to tonight’s shenanigans, Addie of course needed to have her nails painted purple to match Mommy and Sister, so we gave it a go, and she looks so cute with her matching nails now too.

Jeff decided to mow the front yard tonight, so he also showed Ryan how to work the riding mower, and Ryan went around doing the first pass on the whole front yard. Then Jeff lowered the blades (or something like that?) to cut it shorter, and he did a second pass. Meanwhile, the girls and I finished potting the last of the spider babies, since we ran out of soil earlier and couldn’t find where Jeff had “hidden” my new bag.

And wouldn’t you know it, but Emerson wanted to play a few more rounds of cards once we got back inside. Oh, and we were playing “Trash,” since I don’t think I mentioned it before. I’m sure she’ll have the whole family trained up before long. Funny enough, back in my younger years, during college and for a few years after, I literally always carried a deck of cards in my purse, because my friends and I always loved playing games, and you just never knew when you might have some free time. Looks like I might start doing that again, so I can play cards with my big girl now!

Big Brother was acting as a jungle gym for his little sisters, before we finally got started on Bluey and the bedtime routine.

We did eventually get them both to sleep, but it was definitely later than usual after all the other things we did this evening. But they’re both sound asleep now, and it’s Ryan’s last night here with us, so we’ll probably just hang out and chat a little bit before bedtime…
