Aloha, Alaska!

Saturday mornings are for trying to sleep late (we made it to 8:30 today!), quick cereal for breakfast, and then lots of chores all around the house. We had turkey sandwiches and leftovers for lunch, and then finally got dressed and ready to go by 12:30 pm. Our first stop was at 7Brew, where I got a salted caramel & pumpkin macchiatto, and I got Emerson a “funnel cake” decaf latte.

On our vacay last week, we told both girls they could pick out a special treat at the huge candy store. Addison wanted jelly beans, so I helped her make one of those bags where you choose your flavors from the tube thingies… But there were too many choices and Emmie never chose anything. So instead, I let her get a coffee today, since I stopped buying her special drinks like this, because she usually doesn’t finish them all and I didn’t wanna waste any money. But she certainly drank this whole thing today!

Then we stayed and hung out and read and played at the library for about an hour. The girls were playing so sweetly together, we just let them keep going until our Walmart grocery order was ready.

When we got home, we put all the groceries away, and kept working on rotating loads of laundry, and folding clean clothes. Emmie and I watched a movie and she worked on making her little bracelets for Operation Christmas child, and Jeff wrestled Addie down for a nap. She was really fighting it today though, and by the time she finally gave up and gave in, girlfriend fell asleep on the hardwood floor!

We finally had to wake Addie up off the floor at 5:30pm, and we decided to haul it across town to try out the Aloha Hawaiian BBQ place. I’d been wanting to try it out for a while, just hadn’t made it yet.

And of course Emerson and I played a few rounds of her favorite game, with these new, pretty cards Nana & PopPop brought us back from Alaska.

Buuuut honestly, we weren’t super impressed. I got the BBQ combo plate, with the katsu chicken too, and Jeff got the panko white fish plate. Both came with rice & mac salad and some veggies. Then we just got two extra plates for the girls and shared everything with them, and Jeff and I both tried all the meats and stuff too. The food was decent, but it actually looks better than it tastes. I can’t really put my finger on it exactly, but we just didn’t love it, which is unfortunate, because I’ve seen/heard some rave reviews on it for a few months. We liked it well enough to eat it though, and it was mostly fine…

We got the girls into the bath tub as soon as we got home, and kept working on a few chores as we could, like finally getting our clean sheets back on the bed. We snuggled and watched Bluey, and then I read them a book in my bed at bedtime. They both also got these cute little husky dogs from Alaska yesterday. Addie named hers Alaska (honestly, that’s a perfect name for a husky), and Emmie named hers Snowy.

I also had to re-order this little tiny dachshund doggie for Emmie this past week. I had originally gotten it for her 7th birthday last summer in honor of our Pretzel doggie who died last February. But it’s been missing for a long time, and she has been devastated about it. When it was delivered today, she was so happy about it, and so sweet, just loving it and stroking it’s nose, just as if it was her real Pretzel. She made me tear up actually she was being so sweet, and then she teared up too, because she was so happy to have her little Pretzel back.

We need to go rotate over another round of laundry, and I have only 25-ish minutes left of my current book that I’d like to finish tonight, so I might try to focus on that before bedtime.
