We’ve had such a long, busy, great day today! Less writing today, more photos…
Addie requested birthday pancakes, so we went out for breakfast at Whataburger. (Thought about trying Cracker Barrel, but we didn’t get up & out in time.)
Then we hit up a few thrift stores, looking for a few specific things, and Emmie picked out some books for Addie’s birthday present.
And Addie also picked out a book on her own, about dump trucks and excavators and such.
We also took a quick trip to the library, to pick up some books on hold, and the girls got to play with giant Legos.
We had a quick lunch of leftovers and randoms at home, and I mixed up a big batch of dilly ranch chicken salad, to take to Grammy’s house tonight. I also emptied a jar of pickles, so I decided to throw in some whole garlic cloves & carrot sticks, to see how it goes making pickled garlic carrots. Never done it before, just wanted to make good use of some almost elderly veggies.
I also tried making a homemade match again, for only the second time, using the last of my homemade blueberry syrup. It was… fine. But really nothing special. People love matcha, but I just can’t quite get into it. Emmie liked it more than I did, so I let her finish it, but really, I’d just prefer an iced coffee!
We left Jeff and Addie at home napping, and Emmie and I went out to Grammy’s house to get started on party set up, decor, and prep work. And Papa made us some cafe con leche while we worked, and that was much more to my liking, over the matcha.
Emmie tried it too, but she wasn’t actually a huge fan.
A few months ago, I asked Addie what theme birthday party she wanted, and she said pink & flowers, so that’s what we did! We kept it very minimal decor, and did a super easy dinner, and it was just an easy, chill family dinner night. I loved how low key it was, and Addie had so much fun and just loved being the the birthday girl!
Only the kids got in the pool, and stayed in as long as they could, before their lips were turning blue and their teeth were chattering. The pool really isn’t quite warm enough, but they just couldn’t wait!
Homemade tuna salad, homemade chicken salad, homemade pimento cheese, homemade pasta salad, plus deli meat & cheese, all the toppings and condiments, and three kinds of bread, plus some chips and dill dip. Great spread!
This adorable Belle nightgown was one of her gifts (from Aunt Meggie), and she had to put it on after opening gifts, and wore it the rest of the night. And the Dolly Parton strawberry cake turned out delicious!
The girls took a bath there, and got their jammies. Meg said this Belle dress is a nightgown technically, not a dress-up-dress, so baby sis is sleeping in it tonight! We had a couple of grandparent photos before we left, and then headed home for the night.
Emerson was just dying to read this robot book to Addie that she picked out today, because she just knew that Addie would think it was so cute and funny.
Everyone else is asleep now after a full day, and it’s thundering and raining and I just know I’m gonna get a good nights’ sleep now too!
