I was a busy little bee first thing this morning, getting a giant pork shoulder into the crockpot, to make al pastor pork tacos for dinner tonight. Plus I got the girls dressed & did both of their hair, and packed Addie’s lunch, and made the coffee, and fixed both of their water bottles. All before I got myself dressed too!
Addison was begging to wear her tiny denim mini skirt again today, but again, I’m trying to save that for Wednesday, for if they get their chapel shirts. But I was able to convince her to wear something else, by grabbing a blue dress like sissy, and she liked that idea and then she was happy.
Jeff took just Emmie to school today, and I took Addie to her 6-month follow-up with the ENT. One tube was out, but just stuck in wax, so they removed that, which took a grand total of like 10 seconds, but we had to go to a back room that was like 50 degrees so we were freezing! She did great though!
Oh and I also picked out a blue dress to match the little girlies today too.
Then when I took her to the preschool office at school for her late check-in, she went up to the lady at the desk (I don’t even know her name!) and was just hugging her for like 2 minutes straight, and then she just walked off to class with her holding hands!
And then by the time I got back to school to pick her up around 5:20, they were outside and she was so hot and sweaty and tired. She of course had to sit down and have a giant drink of water before we could head to the car.
So last night, we forgot to put a diaper on Addie, and she had an accident in our bed around midnight. So we stripped the sheets, towel-dried it as best as we could, and then laid down a fresh towel. We didn’t have any clean sheets handy, so we laid down a giant fleece blanket as a sheet, and then covered up with two more super soft blankets for the night. When Emerson woke up this morning, she was in heaven when she snuggled up in there for a few minutes, and she was dying to get back into that super soft, cozy, fluffy, fleecy bed. So as soon as we got home tonight, she grabbed her book and did her nightly reading homework snuggled up in my bed, while I was getting dinner ready.
I heated up a can of black beans, and made the Mexican rice flavor of Rice-a-Roni, then diced up some onions and cilantro for my tacos. The al pastor pork turned out really soft and tender and shredded with just some tongs. But unfortunately, it also accidentally turned out way spicier than I thought it would. (I mean yes, it had chipotles in it, but it also had pineapple & pineapple juice and apple cider vinegar, so I thought it would kind of all even out…) So neither of the girls could eat the meat, but I really liked it, and although it was spicier than Jeff usually eats, he still liked it too.
We were kinda all doing our own things after dinner (Emmie was reading more, I was cleaning up in the kitchen, Jeff was working on something I just don’t know what, and Addie was popping bubble wrap), until it was time to settle down and watch some Bluey. Then of course we read a book or two, and got started on the bedtime routines.
This week is the Scholastic book fair at Gilchrist, so tonight, I set up an “eWallet” for her, so she doesn’t have to have cash, and the folks running it can just look up her account by her name. So I started it off with some money, and we sent it to some family asking if they wanted to contribute, and this was her face when I told her that her eWallet now had $50 in it for the book fair this week! (And if she happens to not spend it all in one week, then we can shop online afterwards with whatever’s left.)
I got all of the leftovers put away earlier, by making a couple of rice bowls, plus a couple of containers of just the pork, one for me and one to share with my friend Heather at work who loves Mexican food and loves spicy food. But now I need to actually wash up some dishes, so I’ll go take care of that now, before reading at little bit of my Kindle book at bedtime.
