A Dancer & A Princess

The girls and I stayed home all day today, on what my dad calls “Christmas Adam” (because Adam came before Eve), and had a great day together. Cereal for breakfast, a little bit of cleaning up for me, lots of playing and costumes for the girls, and a nice long shower for me. We had lunch, and then went outside into the front yard for a long time. They attempted the “airplane” move over and over again, and although they never really nailed it, they had tons of fun trying!

This dance costume Emerson is wearing was given to her from one of my coworkers (complete with a giant tu-tu, which is not pictured), and she said she was Taylor Swift in the 1989 part of The Eras Tour, with the boots and the outfit. And Addison was Elsa for the second day in a row, along with her rubber Elsa rain boots, and big ole tie-dye bandaid on her knee.

Once again, I forced Addison to nap this afternoon, and although she insisted she wasn’t tired, I convinced her to lay in Emerson’s bed. She asked me to say my usual bedtime prayer (which is the same prayer my mama used to say to Megan and I every night when we were little), because she said it was “lovely and cute.” And wouldn’t you know it, but my girl was knocked out after two songs on the lullaby playlist.

Today was the first day we finally put the tree skirt on underneath the tree, and then the girls lined up the presents they made for us at their schools. And it finally looks like we’re actually getting ready for Christmas day!

I did take a little one-hour-ish nap on the couch while Addie was asleep, and Emmie was watching tv. Then I finally made my first cup of coffee for the day around 3:30, grabbed a cookie, and worked on my Christmas puzzle and started a new Christmas movie.

Addie woke up and it was still beautiful outside, so I took my second cup of coffee back out into the front yard with the girlies, still in their little costumes.

Easy dinner tonight, using the jar of store-bought butter chicken simmer sauce, with a pot of jasmine rice and garlic naan on the side. This is Jeff’s obsession right now, butter chicken and Indian food, so he absolutely loved this tonight. Emerson wasn’t sure at first, but she ended up eating what I gave her, and then wanted seconds. Addison did try one bite, but she didn’t like it, so we let her eat just rice and naan.

This is Jeff’s plate, just heaped as high as possible!

We watched some of the Jonas Christmas movie again, and worked on the puzzle more, and then got started on bedtime. Addie tried to give us her same ole song and dance, claiming she wasn’t tired, and although it did take her longer to settle down, she did eventually give up. And my sweet little Emmie was totally exhausted, and she was out in no time herself.

I’m going to try to go wrap some presents now, so I can get more done tonight, and not procrastinate everything until tomorrow night, which is what we typically do each year…
