Heart Check

Today’s dress up theme for Emmie was Hawaiian day, also known as “lei off drugs.” She picked out her own dress, found a lei we already owned, and then asked our Google Hub what animals lived in Hawaii and then found this rainbow frog to bring with her. (Addie was in a mood again this morning, and didn’t want to take pictures with us.)

Cute little Addie Pie made a jack-o’-lantern at school today. 🎃

I worked a short day, got off at 1:30, and picked up Emmie early from school for her annual cardiologist appointment. This is now always a nice, quick visit for us, basically just a catch-up time with our pediatric cardiologist that we love so much, since she’s doing so perfectly great post-open-heart surgery. They do BP & pulse, then an EKG followed by the echocardiogram. Emmie and Dr. Vining and the nurse talked about her doing cartwheels, all the time, so at the end of the appointment he came out to the empty waiting room with us and asked her to do a few cartwheels to show off for the staff, and they were all so impressed and sweet to her.

They also had a little section of loot at checkout, and they let her take two books, and two stickers, and two pieces of candy, and girlfriend was happy as a clam!

We had some mommy & me time at Paper Fox Coffee Shop after the appointment, where she requested a cherry lemonade freeze, and a bagel & cream cheese 🤣 I had an iced pumpkin spice latte, which was so yummy, and we actually split the bagel.

We actually made a quick little stop at Goodwill after the coffee shop, but didn’t find anything good today. We picked up Addie a little early, and then headed home. I had put a pork loin with onions & teriyaki sauce in the crockpot first thing this morning, so then I just made some jasmine rice and broccoli, and dinner was ready. (And I cut up some more red onions to make more pickled onions.) And it was really good and super easy and very cheap. The whole meal probably cost less than $10 to make!

When we sat down, Addie told me to take a picture of her. And then once we started eating, she told me to take a picture of her eating too 🙂

We had a very dramatic bath time (which involved draining the tub halfway through and finishing up with showers which Addie thought was funny at first and ended in blood-curdling screams), but then we had some calm chill time while Emmie finished up her homework before bedtime.

We did do sister bedtime stories again, and they’re just so sweet together like this.

Addie reached back about halfway through to hold my hand, and I loved that so much.

It was a good afternoon and and a good evening, and now I just get some chill time, since we got the girls down a little earlier than usual tonight.
