Pumpkin Popcorn

So my little monkey was acting wild last night… In last night’s post, I wrote that it was about 9:15pm by the time Jeff laid her down in her crib, after he spent an hour going through all the bedtime motions over and over again. But by 9:30, she was crying and whining already. Jeff went back in for about 15 minutes, and then I tried to take over. She didn’t want me though, she only wanted Daddy. She would not settle down, so we went and laid down in our bed all together. But then she was just awake and fidgety and trying to pet Pretzel (he was in bed with us too), and chatty and just not sleeping.

So after about 20 minutes of that, I went back in her room with her. We did lullabies and I rocked her, and Daddy had to come back for another hug and a kiss, and she cried and whined for a bit (and I had to force myself to stay calm & not get overly frustrated), and finally around 10:35, I laid her down in her bed. But as soon as I shut the door to her room she started crying again. But I needed a minute to recuperate, so I went to the living room. I told myself I’d give her 10 minutes to cry-it-out on her own (now 2.5 hours past usual bedtime), and by 10:45, she was finally calm & quiet. I could see on the baby monitor though that her eyes were still open, until around 10:55.

So by the time she finally went to sleep, it was almost 3 full hours past her usual bedtime, and Jeff and I were both just spent from all of that hoopla.SO, after all that last night, we all had a hard time getting up this morning, so we just didn’t. We all slept in, and didn’t even leave the house this morning until around 8:40, when we usually leave at 7:10. But we finally made it to work and school, and there were still muffins & breakfast available!

And you can see her little eyes look more tired and puffy today due to lack of sleep. I’m sure mine looked the same first thing this morning…

The county Health Department came to my building today, offering free flu shots for those of us with certain health insurance companies. So of course we took advantage of that, because it was so convenient! I even got permission for Megan & Jeff to walk over from their buildings, since they’re also State employees, and they work close by. So we had family flu shots this morning! (We have to wait two more weeks until the appointment for Emerson to get hers.)

I had the last of the leftover pulled pork for lunch today, and it was still really yummy. And I read my Kindle book on my phone.

After work, Jeff and I both met up at Growing Room to pick up our Tater Tot. Jeff got the green light to leave a little earlier than normal, since he racked up so many extra hours at the conference last week. So we met at daycare & picked up Emmie, then had a super fast dinner at Taco Bell before going our separate ways. (Their current nacho grande box is delicious by the way, with shredded chicken.)

Jeff took Emmie home to do bath and bed and all the toddler things, and I went out to church for a women’s Bible study meeting. My mom is actually leading these monthly women’s missionary meetings our church just started, but I missed the first meeting last month when I went to Thomasville for the “Crawdads” book event. So I was glad I was able to jump in tonight! Tonight’s topic was all about prayer, and I love that my mom used this quote from Corrie Ten Boom, who was a Holocaust survivor, and wrote one of my favorite books, “The Hiding Place.”

We had a great meeting, and it was nice to do a Bible study with just other women, which I haven’t been to in a while.

My Mama brought me this bag of popcorn tonight, because she knows how much I love pumpkin stuff. And y’all. It is good.

We’re having a hard time getting Emerson to sleep again tonight (already been trying for an hour, taking turns, and doing all the normal stuff). She’s been in there crying for about 10 minutes since we last left her, so I’m about to go back in and try again. Say a quick prayer for us please, because I don’t think we can handle a repeat of last night!
